New Super Mario Bros.: Did you notice…?

Gotta love the small touches in a game.

Also, the Power-Ups seem to do it, too; a Magic Mushroom or Fire Flower will hop to the beat on those same notes, but not in an elusive manner. Just enough to make you think “Cute…”

[info]woekitten pointed out another neat little touch. Close the DS for Sleep Mode, and Mario says “Bye-bye!” Open, and he greets you with “It’s a-me, Mario!”

Dunno what Luigi says, tho.

Oh, you didn’t know Luigi is playable outside of 2-Player mode, too? Yeah, though he’s not got the benefits of his other single-player outings; he plays just like Mario, but with different lines. Still, Luigi has his fans, so if you’re one of them, hold L and R before starting your save file, and Luigi will greet you.

One thing that I was REALLY hoping for in the game came through, in a most unexpected way. I always thought the stage end music from SMB1 was the best, really making you feel really triumphant. Getting fireworks punctuated the feeling.

Well, if you trigger the fireworks this time out, you get the classic end theme for the stages as well! Nice. But how do you do it?

Well, that would be telling, wouldn’t it? I’m not sure I want to spoil that part… but maybe if someone asked me nicely out of the way in the Comments, I could share the info I got thanks to [info]johnct311 on IRC last night…
