“What am I Fighting Foooorrr???” The Redubbing of Iris’s Death Scene

There’s a decent chance that if you’re reading this, you’re familiar with the following scene:

If you’ve ever been on a forum or image board and seen someone cry out in a melodramatic fashion “What am I fighting fooooooor???”, this is where it came from. Something of a black-eye on the Mega Man franchise, it’s pretty much become a tongue in cheek joke, robbing the moment of any tension or drama that had been intended.

Fortunately, Lucas Gilbertson, who voiced Zero in Mega Man X Command Mission, Mega Man X8, and Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X (but not Model Z in Mega Man ZX Advent, unfortunately), chose to re-record this scene recently. You can view that and learn a lot more right here. Plus, at the end, there’s an extra video of the scene impressively re-enacted, using Proto Man and Splash Woman from Mega Man 9.
