TheBitBlock Imagines Animal Crossing for Wii U
Okay, to preface this whole thing: no one expects Nintendo to make a new Animal Crossing for the Wii U. Well, no one here and no one in the subject of this post, at any rate.
Just the same, it’s fun to imagine what could be in the next console version of the series, whether it be Wii U, NX, or whatever else. And that’s just what the folks over at TheBitBlock have done in the following video, which shows off a number of ideas — many of which are applicable to most any future iteration, GamePad or no.
I have to be honest: I watched because the subject matter intrigued me, but I was genuinely impressed by the work put into this video to not only express ideas, but actually create footage of what it might look like to really drive the whole thing home. Sure, Animal Crossing isn’t the most sophisticated game to try to replicate, but what is here looks great, and it’s going to keep my eye out for future installments to see just how well they might be able to follow up on this.
As to the content itself, I dig the balloon and sticker ideas, and really like the designs shown for the former. Moreover, the toolbox is something I’ve been saying needs to be in the game for years now. Rather, I’ve said a tool belt, but the idea is close enough either way, as tools just take up entirely too much inventory space, and trying to find “cheats” to get around the limitation — i.e. stuffing them into letters — is just annoying.
An Animal Crossing may be too great an endeavor for the Wii U’s fortunes, but just the same, I hope some of these ideas will live on in some way or another in a future installment — and in the case of the toolbox, that includes handhelds. For now, I’m eager to see what other ideas TheBitBlock can Make us Believe in.
