Xbox Reveals Two New Wireless Controllers: Electric Volt and Daystrike Camo Special Edition

More environmentally friendly, too!

Sometimes finding just the right controller can be tricky.

For some, a controller is a controller. For others, it is a symbolic and literal extension of their own minds and bodies as they interact with their favorite games, and so it should say something about them.

To that end, Xbox has followed up their rather Canadian-feeling Pulse Red Xbox Wireless Controller by announcing two new flavors: Electric Volt and Daystrike Camo Special Edition.

Electric Volt features a neon yellow-green hue that just makes you want to do the Dew, accented by black highlights and a white back panel.

From Xbox Wire:

Inspired by the energy and vibrance often found in athletic apparel and sneaker design, the Xbox Wireless Controller – Electric Volt is the newest color in the current generation of Xbox controllers. Electric Volt builds on the same, striking color theme of Shock Blue and Pulse Red but takes it up a notch with a high-energy, yellow resin not yet seen on Xbox hardware. The high-vis yellow top case punches hard against the matte black hybrid D-pad while the white back case adds even more dimension to the design.

Meanwhile, Daystrike Camo Special Edition is the third in Xbox’s “Camo” series, following Night Ops Camo and Arctic Camo, and is the first of the line to utilize the current generation controller design included with the Xbox Series X|S (also sold separately, and compatible with Windows PC, Xbox One, and more).

Per Xbox Wire:

Your favorite Xbox camo takes on a unique, lifestyle twist in this fresh design. With a palette of deep reds, paired with grey and black, Daystrike Camo brings a streetwear vibe to your game.

In addition, while the shoulder bumpers on the standard Series X|S controller have a matte feel already, Daystrike Camo will incorporate a textured feel across the entire top of the bumpers.

Both of these styles are inspired by streetwear, so it only makes sense that they would inspire some streetwear of their own. If one of these really resonates with you, the Xbox Gear Shop in the States will have your hookup starting April 21st. However, quantities are limited, but on the bright side, at least they ship outside the country.

But back to the controllers themselves. If you’re wondering how the new style controller stacks up against my favorite controller, the Xbox One Wireless Controller, then the answer is “rather favorably” (you can read all about that here).

Making the deal just a little bit sweeter is that, “as part of our commitment to become more sustainable across the Xbox product lifecycle,” both of these controllers incorporate Post-Consumer Recyclable (PCR) materials — a first for any kind of Xbox hardware.

Both controllers will contain a portion of resins made from recycled materials like automotive headlight covers, plastic water jugs and CDs. We expect no compromises from these recycled materials either, as our testing shows the materials provide the same controller durability or performance you have come to expect. We are excited to be taking this next step in our commitment to waste reduction and recycling, while still coming up with innovative new controller designs.

Score one for Mother Earth!

And if that’s not enough, these controller (in select markets, anyway — need to check on Canada) also come with a 14-day trial of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Now, here’s the part you’ve been waiting for: The Electric Volt version of the controller will be available April 27th for $74.99 CAD, whereas the Daystrike Camo Special Edition earns that name by going for $79.99 as of May 4th (Hey, right around my birthday! Neat!).
