Xbox and Gucci Team Up to Celebrate Their Anniversaries Together
Well, this is one of the more unusual pairings I’ve seen. Not the strangest, no, not by a long shot, but if you asked me who Xbox would team up with to celebrate their 20th anniversary? Gucci would not have even been on my radar. Adidas? Sure! The Rock’s Red Notice on Netflix? Certainly! Gucci? Never would have crossed my mind.
And yet, here we are: a match made in… I dunno, the high fashion district, I guess?
It’s not just the anniversary of Xbox that’s being celebrated, though, oh no. While they’re marking the big 2-0, Gucci is also celebrating an entire century in business!
To mark these milestones, they’re releasing a limited-edition Gucci Xbox Bundle. “Nodding to the past, present and future of the long-intertwined gaming and fashion communities,” states their press release, “the collectable set is designed to celebrate and promote self-expression.”
The project speaks of Gucci’s quest in seeking out new cultural areas to explore, always with a view to encourage the promotion of character and self-expression. For gaming fans, enthusiasts and aficionados, this exclusive console and its carrying case are a collectible, eclectic set, with nods to the past, present and future. The new Gucci and Xbox collaboration comes after the House’s previous exploration of the world of games and video-games, both through those it has designed for its own app, as well as through its collaborations with Mattel Creations, 100 Thieves, Roblox, Zepeto, Animal Crossing, content creators from The Sims 4’s community, and FNATIC among others.
Included in this package are “a custom Xbox Series X console laser-engraved with a GG-pattern, two Xbox Wireless Controllers in Carbon Black featuring Gucci’s Web stripe in red and blue and an Xbox Game Pass membership, complemented by a hard case inspired by Gucci’s archival luggage.”
You can get a closer look here:
The case is covered in the famous beige Gucci Supreme canvas, with gold catches and yellow leather trim. A red and blue Web stripe runs around it, while “XBOX” is written on the lid in the brand’s signature green, a familiar hue to Xbox players. The same colour covers the efficiently compartmentalised interior, which houses the console and controllers. On the bottom of the case sit the words “GOOD GAME” in yellow. The motto recalls the happy coincidence that GG stands not only as a famous motif in Gucci’s decorative vocabulary – deriving from the name of Guccio Gucci, who founded the House in 1921 in Florence – but also as the acronym of this formula, used sportingly during gaming. Attached to the handle is a yellow leather key holder and luggage tag, portraying both the companies’ logos.
There’s just one other thing you should probably know about this bundle…
You probably aren’t getting one.
If you thought the normal Xbox Series X was difficult to get, consider that there are only 100 of these bundles (to mark 100 years of Gucci), and according to The Verge (I couldn’t find a price on the official website), they’re going for $10,000 USD each.
The set goes on sale today (November 17th) on Gucci’s official website, and in select Gucci stores, including (per their press release): New York’s Wooster, Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, Moliere Palacio de Hierro in Mexico City, Beijing SKP, Shibuya Parco in Tokyo, as well as in ephemeral Gucci Circolo locations in London, Berlin and Milan.
And despite the price, one has to imagine that they’ll go quickly to anyone who both wants one and can afford to buy one.
I don’t know a whole lot about fashion, myself, but I will say this: Gucci has good taste in game consoles.
