Roger the Retrogaming Puppet’s Five Reasons to Own an NES
On the Stick’s Roger the Retrogaming Puppet is back one again to look at five reasons to own a Nintendo Entertainment System — no, last month was five spooky reasons to own an NES. This is just five non-pants wetting reasons. And if you knew about that one? Good on you, since I just realized I didn’t actually get to post about it here.
Anyway, here are five games you can only play legitimately by owning Nintendo’s original flagship console.
Without spoiling the countdown, I’ll just make my thoughts known here:
#1: Awesome, awesome game. They made a sequel, which much to my regret, I never got to play. Fingers crossed that it/they get the “Remastered” treatment.
#2: I think I remember this one being featured in an issue of Nintendo Power magazine, but I never got to play it. One of those games I’ve always been kind of intrigued by, but playing it just never quite happened.
#3: My only memories about this are that I saw it at the video rental store a lot when I was a kid. Never played it, but now I’m sort of wishing I had. By all rights, this should be able to go on Virtual Console, but #F**Konami, right?
#4: Hugely underrated game. While the titles bookending it were adaptations of arcade games, the latter on more powerful hardware even, this one was custom made for the NES, and it was glorious. Arguably better than the “original, but not” asset reuse that landed on the SEGA Genesis. I would love to get my hands on this one.
#5: See #2. This one made the cover, even, but as noted, I think the Super NES was in full swing by this point. I’d love to play it, though, along with some other overlooked cover games from that period.
And that’s all for today!
